Pokémon TCG Pocket’s New Expansion Celebrates Generation 2 in a Big Way
Just days after the latest Pokémon Presents showcase, The Pokémon Company has dropped even more exciting news for fans. On Thursday, the next expansion for Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket was announced — Wisdom of Sea and Sky — with a strong focus on the beloved Generation 2.
This expansion marks the debut of Johto’s legendary duo, Lugia and Ho-Oh, alongside the iconic starter trio: Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile (arguably the best starters — don’t @ us). The trailer also teases appearances from Red Gyarados, ex versions of Umbreon and Espeon, and new Trainer cards including Gen 2’s rival, Silver. Staying true to Gen 2’s legacy, baby Pokémon like Pichu and Cleffa are also making their way into the card pool.
Lugia and Ho-Oh will serve as the faces of the booster packs, and the expansion brings over 200 new cards into the game. Wisdom of Sea and Sky continues the trend of monthly expansions for Pokémon TCG Pocket in 2025, following June’s Eevee Grove, which spotlighted the many fan-favorite eeveelutions.

Trading System Updates
Alongside the new cards, Pokémon TCG Pocket is also introducing updates to its trading system: • Players will soon be able to create wishlists for specific cards they’re seeking. • Trade tokens are being phased out. • Instead of requiring an in-game currency to initiate trades, players will now use Shinedust to trade for higher-rarity cards. • Shinedust can be earned by completing missions or collecting duplicate cards.

With this Johto-focused drop, Pokémon TCG Pocket is delivering big nostalgia and meaningful system improvements — great news for longtime fans and new players alike.
